Our preschool
As part of the NSW Government’s commitment to build 100 public preschools by Term 1 2027, our school has been selected to receive one of the new preschools.
Villawood East Public Preschool will soon welcome families and children into a supportive, inclusive and play-based learning environment within our whole school community. Our preschool will be a valued part of our school and give children the best start in life and early learning.
At our preschool, children will explore, ask questions and learn through play. Our experienced staff will support children to have a positive transition into Kindergarten. We look forward to welcoming you and your child to our preschool when it opens.

Expressions of interest (EOIs) to enrol at Villawood East Public Preschool are not yet open. We will keep our school community informed and provide further information once EOIs open.
Public preschools enrol children for one year only, in the year before they start school. Children can enrol from the beginning of the school year if they turn 4 years of age before 31 July that year.
Unlike NSW public schools, there are no enrolment boundaries for public preschools. Children do not need to live in our school’s local enrolment intake area (catchment area) to apply. If the number of applications exceeds the number of available places, enrolments will be prioritised in accordance with the Public Preschool Enrolment Procedure.

Our preschool will be an approved early learning service and operate under the National Quality Framework.
We will provide a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment where children feel supported to learn, grow and thrive.
Our child to staff ratio will be 10:1 and every class will be staffed with a university-trained early childhood teacher (ECT) and a trained School Learning Support Officer (SLSO) to ensure the high-quality delivery of early learning education.
Our learning program will offer age-appropriate, play-based learning experiences guided by the Early Years Learning Framework.
Our preschool follows a range of policies and procedures to ensure children receive high quality education and care in a safe and inclusive environment.

The VEPS Preschool Philosophy
Our preschool is situated on Darug land. An appreciation and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture is embedded into the program; children contributing through an ‘Acknowledgement of Country’ and showing respect for land and its inhabitants/
Our team and the drive for collaboration
At Villawood East Preschool, we believe in the importance of collaboration amongst families, children and the widerschool. We seek input through a plethora of methods and information gained here informs our practice. Communication between educators is critical to ensuring a consistent learning space for children and critical reflection and staff meetings provide a forum for exchanging information and informing colleagues.
Connecting to families and community
We aim to bridge the gap between preschool and Kindergarten through collaborative discussions with the wider school team, putting on a united front and carefully considering the transition. Educators are advocates for children and their families, supporting and guiding them through challenge.
We provide families with important information on the benefits of healthy eating and sun safety. This philosophy was created in partnership with parents and community.
The play-based preschool program provides opportunity for children to develop academically, socially and holistically, prepared for life’s challenges. Our aim is to ensure children leave the preschool equipped with the life skills necessary to succeed in school and beyond, in a fun, sociable and safe environment.
The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) provides the foundation of the program and educators seek to ensure:

- Children are connected with and contribute to their world
- Children have a strong sense of wellbeing
- Children are confident and involved learners
- Children are effective communicators
Our vision of children
Educators view children as resilient, capable, competent and independent learners, highly skilled at navigating their own learning interests. Our freeflow indoor/outdoor learning environments provide children with choice, challenge and ourflexible, responsive learning program is compiled, and edited as required, with children in mind.
Children’s individuality is nurtured and celebrated, and bespoke learning goals, set in collaboration with families, encourages individualised outcomes for children, at a pace suited to their individual development.
Educators maintain the highest expectations of all children and are mindful of each child’s individual achievements, viewing each child’s strengths and ‘can dos’, rather than the alternative. Inclusion is embedded in all aspects, and is supported by culture, policies and everyday practices.
We place the highest emphasis on children’s voice, allowing their needs and interests to feed the program. Our educators are mindful and interested in the children, inquisitive to the differing cultures and beliefs of our families and celebrating these respectfully. Educators deem it necessary children should become environmentally aware and they hold responsibility for caring for our plants and respecting their resources and peers.
